How to Grow Orchids From Seeds
So you have decided that you want to start to grow orchids.  They are a truly beautiful flower, and you will love having them, but you have to figure out How to Grow Orchids From Seeds.  Growing an orchid from a seed is not necessarily an easy feat, but it is also not impossible.  With a little work, you can figure out how to do it, and you will be rewarded with gorgeous orchids.

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that the plant you are planning to use for seeds is in good shape.  You will want it to be a mature plant that has nice solid roots.  It is difficult on orchids to bear seedpods.  In fact, it is so difficult that it might even risk the orchid's life.  You need to take the necessary steps to ensure that the mother plant is in the best shape possible so that you can get a good healthy seedpod for your new orchids.

Once you harvest the seed, you need to plant it immediately.  The key to ensuring success is to be sure that you are taking great care to be completely clean when planting the seed.  You will want to clean your gardening tools before you use them.  To ensure that they are cleaned accurately, you should wash them in a solution that is 20% Clorox and 80% water.  Doing this will give you a greater likelihood of success.

You have some flexibility in what you want to plant your seed in.  However, no matter what you choose you will want to ensure that you have thoroughly cleansed the plants pot.   Next, you will want to decide what type of medium you want to plant your seed into.  There are all sorts of different materials available, and the selection is really up to you.  Once you have chosen that you are ready to plant your seed.

To do this you will need a platinum loop or needle.  It is advisable that you sterilize this by quickly running it under a flame.  Next, you will use this to remove the seed from the distilled water that they are floating in.  After you remove them from the water, you will want to scatter them over the planting material, which needs to be housed in a tube.  You will let the seed grow until you see the roots grow to about a quarter of an inch long.  This typically takes about eight months to happen, and it should be done when the tube is held in some type of enclosure that protects it from excess moisture or light.  Once your seeds have those roots then they are ready to be planted into a pot so that it can grow into the plant that you have dreamed of.
